For Lausanne FOSS4G2006 Workshop Luca Casagrande (alias Doktoreas) has created a GNU/Linux live CD based on Gentoo to offer a common platform for ka-Map presentations and tests.

[edit] Where to get it

DM Solutions Group offered the space to host this CD: http://dl.maptools.org/dl/ka-map/

file to download is: livecd-kamap-004.iso its digest is: livecd-kamap-004.iso.DIGESTS

Once downloaded you'll better put this ISO in a CD-RW support as eventually future releases will enhance its features.

[edit] How to use it

Once you've put the image on a CD you should boot you PC (intel *86 supported) with the CD inside. Choose CD ROM as first boot device in the boot sequence. Then read informations or wait until the monitor shows the login mask. Username: kamap Password: kamap

Once logged in is easy to see and click the ka-Map icon in the desktop and look at default implementations. Configuration file can be easily changed with an editor to see how ka-Map react. Rebooting means loose customization so, if you're intended to save it, use an external drive (as pen drive) or whatever can be useful to this.

[edit] How to update from CVS

The ka-Map default application is installed from CVS repository. If you want to test last changes to ka-Map you have to:

  • open a terminal
cd /var/www/localhost/htdocs/ka-map/
cvs update -d

To do this you need to have an active internet connection. After a moment the local repository should start syncronizing with the remote one. Once ended your local version will be the most updated.
